Most men will experience difficulties at some point in their lives with their erections. The causes are many and varied. These can range from simple stress or anxiety to severe vascular (blood supply) problems and nerve damage. The cause needs to be identified as in some cases weak or absent erections can be an early sign of heart disease. In our clinic we will take a full history and ensure that the cause of the problem is identified and addressed if possible. 99% of patients, whatever the cause of the erectile dysfunction can be helped with medical treatments. We only use tried and tested treatments such as Viagra, Levitra, Cialis and Tri-mix penile injection medication. Many men will have tried one or more of these treatments and will have had poor results and have given up. Some will have spent a considerable amount of money on "Alternative" or herbal remedies and many others on rings and pumps with not much, if any success. Many others will have run the gauntlet of the larger based clinics where they will see sales people, and not be able to see a doctor face to face. They are often pressured to pre pay large amounts of money for untried treatments. In the care of erectile dysfunction there are 5 levels of treatment:
- Counselling
- Tablets such as Viagra
- Penile injections, Caverject and the Tri-mixes
- Vacuum devices
- Penile implants
Counselling
Sometimes erectile difficulties can be resolved by counselling individuals or couples. This can take time and many men prefer a more rapid approach even, while having counselling and prefer a medical treatment as well.
Tablets - Viagra, Cialis, Levitra
These are the first line of treatment if safe for you to use. Some heart medications are contra- indicated in their use but in many men this is the best treatment, is affordable and deals effectively with their erectile problems. In men where the tablets fail or cannot be used because of other medications or side effects or where there has been nerve damage, we use penile injections.
Penile Injections
These are a local treatment and only affect the penile circulation so don't usually have any systemic (bodily) effect. They work in about 99% of the men we have treated. They are especially effective for post Prostate surgery men and recent studies have shown that rapid return to erections,after surgery with medication, gives the best chance of recovery to normal function.
In Diabetic men there is often neuropathy (nerve damage) as well as blood vessel isssues and the injections can usually overcome this where tablets do not.
The self injection is given immediately before sex, and will give a full erection that is dosed to last about an hour, allowing for relaxed foreplay without the fear of fade before penetration. They are painless when given properly. For men in our clinic who choose to use injections we will show you the easy technique for their use at home. We often see men who have tried the injections before without success and find that it is simply a matter of showing them the proper techniques to achieve excellent results. Where pain is an issue we can usually tailor the mix to avoid this once the cause has been identified. We do not make our patients buy large amounts of medication. Some of our patients buy it a dose at a time! We are happy to dispense whatever amount of doses you feel you need. (One dose equals one erection) We dispense from the clinic so there is no wait for medication and you can leave with treatment on the day you see us if you wish. You can also see us, have a test dose and go home and discuss things with your partner should you want to. We also are happy to see you with your partner if you wish. Many partners give the injection. The penile injections are safe, painless and very cost effective.
